Our Story

Mellow Surge began in 2008 when a small group of field ecologists decided that environmental consulting needed a different approach. Too often, ecological assessments were treated as bureaucratic hurdles rather than opportunities for genuine conservation outcomes.

We set out to change that. Our founding principle was simple: every project should leave the land in better condition than we found it. Over eighteen years, that principle has guided everything we do.

Today, our team spans botanists, zoologists, restoration ecologists, and environmental planners. We work across every state and territory, from coastal wetlands to arid rangelands, from urban fringe developments to remote pastoral properties.

What Drives Us

The values that shape every project and partnership.

Scientific Integrity

We ground every recommendation in peer-reviewed research and rigorous field methodology. Our assessments stand up to scrutiny because accuracy matters.

Practical Outcomes

Knowledge without action changes nothing. We design solutions that can be implemented, maintained, and measured against clear ecological targets.

Collaborative Spirit

Landowners, councils, developers, and communities all have a stake in ecological outcomes. We listen, translate, and build consensus.

Our Expertise

Our team holds qualifications across terrestrial ecology, marine biology, wetland science, conservation genetics, and environmental law. But credentials only tell part of the story.

What sets us apart is field experience. Our senior ecologists have collectively logged over 40,000 hours of survey work across Australian ecosystems. We've documented threatened species, designed offset programs, and watched restored sites mature into functioning habitat.
